ACCIDENT IN THE MINES, AND LOSS OF LIFE----On Saturday, the 14th inst., the Pottsville Emporium says, a keg of powder exploded accidentally in a Mine near Coal Castle, worked by Col. Wynkoop, by which two men were dreadfully burned, and one of them, named Hugh Murphy, has since died.

The "Col. Wynkoop" mentioned in the article above, is probably, George Campbell Wynkoop. Richard Wynkoop, in the 1904 edition of the Wynkoop Genealogy in the United States of America, has this to say about him on page 147:
725. George Campbell Wynkoop, Gen'l, (Dr. Nicholas 393, Judge Henry 157, Nicholas 46, Gerret 5, Cornelius 1,) born February 27, 1806: died September 29, 1882, in Pottsville, Penn.: married March 24, 1831, Mary Walker. Chris
