Notes:

This obituary, short as it is, belies the information that Daniel Woodbury Wynkoop gave in his 1914 questionaire, called "Information For Wynkoop Genealogy," published as part of Gertrude Wynkoop Strom Averill's Wynkoop Genealogy in the United States of America, Compiled for 35 years, in which he said, "It is my sad duty to inform you that Richard Wynkoop the 1st Historian of our family has passed away, dying at the advanced age of eighty-five years at the home of his son Hubert S. Wynkoop in Brooklyn, N. Y." Apparently Hubert did not offer his father the hospitality of his house in Richard's final days.

This obituary accompanied the shorter Death Notice, which I published earlier, but had failed to see at the time. As with the earlier notice, this obit completely fails to note Richard's vital importance to the Wynkoop family in general or to mention any of his other genealogical research into other sections of his own family, not to mention his years of service with the New York City Customs House, and his lifelong association with the Republican Party. I think Hubert could have done better.
