Officers Check Woman's Story of Riddled Car
___________

Police authorities yesterday were checking up the statement of Mrs. John Wynkoop of San Francisco that the bullet-riddled automobile found near San Jose Friday and registered in the name of John Wynkoop was stolen from in front of her apartment Friday night.
Mrs. Wynkoop claimed the car yesterday. Wynkoop, a former Federal prohibition agent has been the object of a police search here on the charge of owning and operating a still, and has been at liberty on bail pending appeal of a conviction on a charge of embezzling government property.
While claiming the car, Mrs. Wynkoop told the authorities in San Francisco that she was certain her husband had come to Los Angeles before the machine disappeared, and equally certain that her husband was "not in the car" when it was "shot up."
