CAB CAMOUFLAGE
HELPS IN THEFT
OF $4,000 AUTO
______
Employment of a taxicab to camouflage their movements and at the same time furnish an efficient means of escape, is the latest wrinkle adopted by Chicago automobile thieves. It was worked for the first time Tuesday night on Dr. Gilbert Wynekoop, who has an office and residence at Broadway and Sunnyside avenue.
Dr. Wynekoop left his machine, a $4,000 car with a blue body, standing in front of his home at 11 o'clock.
"A taxicab was standing across the street," he said, "and two men were nearby. Just after I entered the house the taxicab drove over to my side of the street, near my car."
A moment later he heard a car chug away. The taxicab, thought he. A few minutes later he heard another car start away. Thinking it was his car, he rushed to the door. The taxicab was purring down the street. The spot where his car had stood was vacant. He had been in the house only six minutes all told.
The taxi driver, having served his purpose, had waited just long enough for the stolen machine to get well out of sight.
