Richard Wynkoop, in the 1904 edition of the Wynkoop Genealogy in the United States of America, has this to say about Cornelius, on pages 34-35:
51. Cornelius Wynkoop, (Benjamin 8, Cornelius 1,) baptized New York City, June 22, 1701: married there, May 9, 1724, Elizabeth Van der Spiegel, daughter of Jacobus and Anna Van der Spiegel. [Van der Spiegel = of the mirror.] He and his father-in-law were goldsmiths. He and his wife were received to church membership, "on attestation," at Schraalenburg, N. J., December 1, 1735. The first five children were baptized in New York City; the others in Schraalenburg. It was actually Tom Schopper, [email protected], a former resident of Bergenfield, New Jersey, who first sent me the clue that allowed me to unravel the mystery of this particular Cornelius Wynkoop. Back in February of 2006, he sent me a photo he'd taken in the churchyard cemetery of the Old South Church in Bergenfield. It was the tombstone of a child named Robert Wynkoop who passed away in the year 1744 at the age of 2 yrs, 1 month & 7 days:
Robert's headstone allowed me to track down his parents in the Wynkoop Genealogy, where there is no death date for him listed. Tom, thanks for thinking of me. I really appreciate it. I'd especially like to thank Dave Tourison, [email protected], for spending an extraordinary amount of time hunting up this material for me back in July of 2004. Somehow or another Dave managed to find the time, in an incredibly jam-packed schedule, to not only find, but transcribe these records for me. Dave, as you know, I stand in awe of your incredible generosity, not to mention your ability to stay focused on the work at hand, in what for me would be incredibly desperate times. I don't know how you do it. All I can say is: Thanks! All my best, Chris
