WYNEKOOP FAMILY
DATES ITS COLONIAL
ANCESTRY TO 1647
Earle Wynekoop, husband of the murdered Rheta Gardner Wynekoop, is a member of a family that traces its genealogy in this country back to colonial days. The Wynekoops come of Holland Dutch stock and are descendants of Cornelius Wynekoop, who settled in Pennsylvania in 1647, according to Dr. Charles I. Wynekoop, uncle of Earle.
Several generations of the Wynekoops lived in Pennsylvania, after which the family moved to Virginia, according to Dr. Wynekoop. William Wynekoop, grandfather of Dr. Charles Wynekoop, moved to Kirkland, Ind., and his son, also named William, moved to Woolcott, Ind. That was where Earle's father, the late Dr. Frank E. Wynekoop was born.
