CAUSE OF FIRE UNKNOWN.

Paterson, Nov. 3 (Special).--The Opera House, in Main-st., was destroyed by fire this morning, and at one time it looked as if the whole block would be destroyed. The prompt work of the firemen prevented the flames from spreading. The fire started in the rear of the theatre, probably among the scenery, but all trace of the cause was destroyed with the building. The building adjoining, owned by Joseph J. Donohue, was also destroyed. R. J. Wynkoop, a photographer, who lived in the Opera House building and had a photograph gallery there, was put out of home and business. The loss occasioned by the fire is estimated at $85,000, which is partly covered by insurance.
