The Indian Difficulties.

A meeting of the General Committee of the United States Indian Commission took place yesterday at 11 o'clock A. M., at the Geographical and Statistical Society's rooms, Cooper Institute, for the purpose of conferring with Col. E. W. WYNKOOP, late Government Indian Agent for the Cheyenne, Arapaho and Apacha Indians, who has resigned for reasons he has stated in the public prints over his own signature. At the hour appointed for the meeting, there were present Mr. Peter Cooper, Mr. Benjamin Tatham, Rev. E. A. Washburne, Prof. Benjamin N. Martin, Rev. Dr. Alexander H. Vinton and Mr. Vincent Colyer.
After an unimportant colloquial conversation, the following request was formally presented to Col. WYNKOOP:
"The undersigned are desirous of learning the causes that induced you to resign your office of Governmental agent for the Cheyenne, Arapaho and Apacha Indians.
From your long sojourn with these Indian tribes, and your extended knowledge of them, we are sure you can correctly inform us of the true causes which led to the recent trouble with them, and the way in which such troubles may have been avoided.
Further, will you oblige us with your views of the remedy, and your knowledge of Black Kettle, his conduct and designs."
This requis[it]ion was signed by all present.
A general conversation followed as to the best means of exciting public sympathy and attention. Some gentlemen suggested that a few Indian Chiefs be brought, so as to secure a large audience. This was objected to by Rev. Dr. WASHBURNE, as savoring rather of a public exhibition.
Finally it was agreed to hold an adjourned meeting on Wednesday evening next, at 7:30 o'clock, to hear the reply of Col. WYNKOOP.
