ACTIVE IN CITY'S LIFE.
FUNERAL TUESDAY.
______

Los Angeles lost another pioneer when William Wincup, aged 75 years, died on Friday at his residence, No. 1027 West Twenty-third street, of a complication of diseases. Although he had not been well for several weeks, Mr. Wincup refused to take to his bed until ordered to do so by his physician. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Bresee Brothers' chapel and will be in charge of the Masons, with Rev. Hugh K. Walker, pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church, officiating.
William Wincup was born in Toronto, Can., in 1843, his parents having come from England. When 22 years of age, he went to Galesburg, Ill., where he married Miss Clarinda Bruner. From 1862 until 1871 Mr. Wincup was officially connected with the C B & Q Railway Company. In 1871 he went to Peoria, Ill., in which city he had charge of the union ticket office for several years. In 1891 Mr. and Mrs. Wincup came to Los Angeles and Mr. Wincup became interested in the road built from this city to Terminal Island. He bought up all the right of ways for the company and was general passenger agent for the road for several years. Shortly after coming to this city Mr. Wincup was made a member of the Board of Education, serving for several years in that capacity. He was a United Templar, a Shriner and a prominent member of the Jonathan Club. He was familiarly known as "Uncle Billy" and was so called by many Jonathan Club members and other friends who never knew his real name. He was also an active member of the Second Presbyterian Church. His widow survives.
