Man, 70, Hurt Seriously
When Knocked Off
His Bicycle.

Thirteen persons, including a 70-year-old man who suffered a fractured leg when he was knocked off his bicycle, were injured in traffic accidents yesterday.
Meanwhile, a coroner's jury held Mrs. Ellen L. Ridgeway, of 3500 Fourteenth street northwest, under the negligent homicide act in connection with a recent traffic fatality.
Harvey Blatchley, 70, of 19 Second street northeast, was struck by a truck while riding a bicycle at First and F streets northwest.
The injured man was treated at Casualty Hospital, where his condition was said to be undetermined. Police did not hold William E. Johnson, 38, 1354 Fourth street southwest, driver of the truck.
Two policemen were injured yesterday in a collision between a truck and their scout car.
The men, Pvts. Wallace J. Middleton, 41, and Thomas V. Howes, 37, both of the Twelfth Precinct, were taken to Casualty Hospital. Howes suffered severe head cuts, while his companion suffered a sprained shoulder and abrasions.
Harrison Coles, colored, 23, 1514 T street northwest, was charged with reckless driving.
Two youths suffered cuts and bruises when the motorcycle they were riding overturned on Naylor road southeast, near the District Line. At Casualty Hospital, where they were treated, they gave their names as Frank G. Wynkoop, 23, and Arnold Dye, 19.
A hit-and-run driver was sought last night after a collision with an automobile at Tenth and Q streets northwest. The striking machine also injured two pedestrians while escaping.
Phillip Scott, colored, 40, was treated at Freedmen's Hospital after the collision. He suffered lacerations. The pedestrians, both cut, refused medical aid.
Mrs. Ridgeway was held by a coroner's jury yesterday in connection with the death of V. E. Nelson, 55, of 2410 Twentieth street northwest.
Nelson was struck at Twentieth and Calvert streets northwest Thursday and died in Emergency Hospital a short time later.
At the time of the accident, Mrs. Ridgeway was charged with driving on an expired permit.
Three Washington young persons were slightly injured in Montgomery County last night when the car in which they were passengers overturned on the East-West Highway at Colesville road after a freak "collision" with another machine.
Police believe that the car, driven by James E. Nichols, jr., of 3105 Woodley road northwest, overturned after striking another car operated by Ernest V. Kibler, of Glenmont, Md. Examination of the Kibler car, however, revealed that the machine had not even been scratched.
The injured were Betty Hayworth, 17, a George Washington University student; Helen Holmes, 18, of 1556 K street northwest, and Frank Clark, 19, of 1217 Varnum street northeast. All were allowed to return to their homes after treatment by Dr. G. A. Scully, of Silver Spring.
A 55-year-old man who gave his name as M. Pope, of Germantown, Md., was in a critical condition at Montgomery County General Hospital at Sandy Spring last night from injuries suffered when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Frederick road near Gaithersburg.
