POLICE CATCH QUARRY
BY AWAITING STREETCAR

Inglewood police nabbed a suspect in an attempted hotel holdup early yesterday -- simply by waiting for a streetcar.
Nicholas T. Mahoney, 67, night clerk at the Hillcrest Hotel, 101 Hillcrest Drive, Inglewood, called police to report the robbery attempt. He said a youth carrying a 25-caliber automatic ran from the hotel after Mahoney told him, "I don't have any money, either, kid."
Police deduced that a No. 5 streetcar passed the place at that time. They waited for it to reach 54th St. and Crenshaw Blvd., boarded the trolley and arrested Stanley Allen Wynkoop, 19, of 5715 8th Ave. The gun was found under the trolley seats, police said, and Wynkoop was identified by Mahoney.
Booked on suspicion of attempted robbery, Wynkoop told police he had been working at an auto laundry in Manhattan Beach since release from jail Sept 1 after serving three months for grand theft. He said he had since committed about 75 burglaries, pawning the loot on Main St. and throwing away the tickets.
