TROY, N. Y.

TROY, N. Y., Feb. 27.--The polishers in the Hoyt & Wynkoop nickel-plating works struck yesterday for an advance of 15 per cent, which was refused. Two strikers this afternoon entered the shop and assaulted George W. Wynkoep and his brother John, but were finally ejected. This evening John Wynkoop, brother of one of the partners, while going home, was assaulted by Jacob Dunn, backed up by about thirty strikers. Wynkoop was struck in the face with a stone and knocked down. Hoyt and George W. Wynkoop, proprietors of the works, came to Wynkoop's assistance. Hoyt was wounded in the head and his left arm broken by kicks and blows. Wynkoop was attacked by the mob, but entered a house and remained till the assault was over. John Wynkoop, when he saw that his friends could not rescue him, drew a revolver and fired seven shots. Dunn was shot in the head, left shoulder, and hand, and Peter Curry was hit in the left side by a bullet. John Cahill was shot in the right arm and Hausing Smith in the hand. Eight of the assailants upon Wynkoop, including Dunn, were arrested. Dunn is seriously wounded.
