Celebration of Washington's Birthday in the Rocky Mountins.
_________

The citizens of Mountain City and the surrounding districts met at the store of Sheriff John H. Kehler, in that city, on the evening of the 22d of Feb., 1860, for the purpose of uniting in celebrating the anniversary of the Birth-day of Gen. George Washington.
Col. Geo. Wynkoop was called to the Chair and R. J. Frazer, Esq., appointed Secretary.
The President, on taking his seat, briefly stated the object of the meeting, and requested the special attention of the assembly to the fact that for the first time in this Territory of our Great Republic, they were about to appropriately celebrate the natal day, and do honor to the public acts and private virtues of the great "Father of his Country" in the fastnesses of the Rock Mountains.
At the conclusion of the Chairman's remarks, Edward Wynkoop, Esq., was called upon to address the meeting, who responded in a strain of surpassing eloquence, amidst the most enthusiastic cheering of the assembly.
George Brazee, Esq., next entertained the meeting with a lengthy and spirited speech, after which patriotic songs were sung by Messrs. Norwood, Russell, and James Crow.
Upon motion, it was resolved that the Editor of the ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS be requested to publish the proceedings of this meeting.
                                                                           R. J. FRAZIER, Secretary.
