Suicide of Young Man at the Hotel
Palomares in Pomona Is Still a Mystery.

POMONA, March 26.--Nothing more has been learned concerning the identity of the young man who committed suicide at Hotel Palomares Saturday noon. He registered at the hotel on Thursday under the name William Wynkoop of Hutchinson, Kan.
The man was apparently about 25 years old, of pleasant appearance and gave no evidences of illness or moroseness about the hostelry. On Friday he went to Proprietor Kaltenbeck and paid two days board in advance.
The last time the young man was seen alive was on Saturday morning when the chambermaid went to care for the room. He was finishing shaving and asked her the time. The maid went to the room twice after that to take some clean linen, but each time found the door locked.
Being unable to gain entrance on Sunday forenoon, she called the proprietor and upon investigation they found the young man lying upon the floor of the room dead, with a revolver by his side.
He was in street dress and it is presumed, as nobody heard the pistol shot, that the young fellow killed himself Saturday noon or night when the guests were at luncheon or dinner.
A note was found, signed "W. Wynkoop," which asked that the body be cared for and stated that the cause which led to the suicide was of no moment or concern to any one.
No papers, cards or letters were found whereby the young man's relatives or friends could be located, and there was no baggage in the room.
The body has been removed to McGowan's undertaking parlors and the Coroner will come here from Los Angeles.
