NINE FROM SOUTHLAND

    Names of 14 Southern California men receiving commissions or promotions in the armed forces were announced yesterday by the War and Navy Departments.
    Allen T. Richardson, formerly an instructor in mathematics at Belmont High School and later a Democratic County and State Committeeman, has been commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army Air Forces and will leave today for Miami, Fla., for training.
    Don Cameron Anderson of 2142 Ridgeview Ave. was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps Reserve after completing his flying training at Corpus Christi, Tex.

Holt Commissioned

    Tim Holt, film actor, yesterday received his commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Army Air Forces after graduating from the bombardier training school at Victorville.
    Melecio M. Apodaca of 3909 S. Denker Ave. also received a second lieutenant's commission at the Victorville bombardier's school.
    Five young men received second lieutenant's commissions as weather observers after completing their training at the Los Angeles Campus of the University of California in meteorology. They will serve with the United States Army Air Forces. Those who received commissions were:
    Aylmer H. Thompson, Los Angeles.
    Samuel A. Patterson, Los Angeles.
    Robert F. Kopp, Beverly Hills.
    Robert H. Lester, Long Beach.
    John F. Granahl, Anaheim.

Others Raised

    Among promotions announced were:
    Maj. Lester Warren Fish, Los Angeles, to lieutenant colonel.
    Lester H. Leppe, 2554 S. Clyde Ave., from first lieutenant to captain, United States Medical Corps, North Africa.
    Noah N. Wynkoop of 1405 S. Kenmore St., from second lieutenant to first lieutenant, United States Air Forces, La Junta, Colo.
    Benjamin O. Simank Jr., 10580 Wilkins Ave., to first lieutenant, United States Army Air Forces Training School at La Junta, Colo.
    Capt. Lee B. Travis, former professor of psychology and director of the psychological clinic at the University of Southern California, promoted to the rank of major at Gardner Field, California, where he is serving as the post public relations officer.
