Leading anti-Saloonists Called Into Court
on Charge of Contempt.

Denver, June 18.--Rev. M. A. Rader, pastor of Grace M. E. Church; Rev. W. H. Talmage, State superintendent of the Anti-Saloon League, and Secretary Walter D. Wynkoop, of the Christian Endeavor Society of Denver, were summoned to answer to-day in Judge Palmer's division of the District Court to the charge of contempt. I. P. Stauer, secretary of an oyster house, swore to the charges. The case grew out of a temporary injunction granted by Judge Palmer restraining the movement to stop liquor selling on Sunday.
Dr. Rader is cited for contempt on account of having made a statement from his pulpit, in which he is quoted as having said, among other things:
"I suppose we will soon be informed that a judge will grant injunctions against the enforcement of the laws against thieves and sluggers and murderers."
Information against Dr. Talmage says that in an interview he declared, in substance: "That the said Peter L. Palmer was under the control and influence of the saloon men of the city of Denver, and that the said injunctions were issued by him at their behest, and that it would be worth while for the saloon men to pay Judge Palmer $20,000 to make the injunction permanent, but that if it were accomplished it would result in a great upheaval of the Christian people of Denver."
Mr. Wynkoop is cited in consequence of a notice issued to the members of the Christian Endeavor Society calling a mass-meeting to protest against the granting of injunctions.
Judge Palmer set the contempt cases for hearing on June 26.
