___________

Maj. Dixon Assistant Administrator to Succeed
Anderson, Who is Transferred

___________

That Col. Firth, administrator of prohibition for Southern California and Arizona, intends to carry out his promise of a "thorough housecleaning" in his department, was evidenced yesterday when he announced the appointment of new men to fill the offices of assistant administrator, chief of the permissive division and chief field agent in charge of enforcement. Two more resignations will be asked of agents tomorrow, and possibly more, he reported further.
Maj. Blaine Andrew Dixon, 42 years of age, was named assistant administrator in charge of enforcement, succeeding W. W. Anderson, who is retained but transferred to become head of the permissive division. Anderson, who was formerly director of prohibition in Southern California and Arizona, until that office was abolished and Col. Frith made administrator in September last, was retained as assistant administrator when the latter first organized.
Anderson succeeds Otis B. Sayre, who resigned three weeks ago but whose resignation Washington has not yet acted upon. However, Col. Frith states that considers Sayre's resignation as virtually accepted and accordingly named his successor. Sayre has not been in his office since the 15th inst., Frith stated.
Col. Frith announced that Ray S. Adams, chief field agent in charge of enforcement and a member of the department for the last fourteen months, has severed his connection with the organization. Both men declined to comment on the situation. John Wynkoop, who has been an agent since Col. Frith assumed office, was appointed acting chief field agent--a temporary appointment. Maj. Dixon is a West Point man, served there after gaining his commission as an instructor, and has a military record of service on the Mexican border, in the Philippines and in China. It was during 1910 that he held the individual rapid-fire championship of the United States Army. He has been engaged in the real estate business in Los Angeles during the last four years and lives at 1949 North Catalina street.
Wynkoop is also a former Army man. He has lived in Los Angeles for five years.
