FIGHTING FOREST FIRES.

ELMIRA, N. Y., July 12.--About 12 miles from this city, on Wynkoop Creek, this county, farmers became exhausted Friday night, having been since Wednesday fighting forest fires. They were on the point of giving up in despair, when a heavy rain set in and the flames were extinguished. Valuable timber lands two miles long by one mile wide were burned over, entailing a heavy loss.
