DR. WYNCOOP HONORED.
_______
The Western Presbyterian Church Deeply
Regrets His Departure.
At a meeting of the Western Presbyterian Church, held on Thursday last to take action upon the proposed resignation of their pastor, Rev. T. S. Wyncoop, Mr. J. C. Allen was called to the chair and Capt. Robert Armour acted as secretary.
The following resolutions were adopted, and Mr. W. H. H. Smith, Mr. J. C. Allen, and Col. A. Webster, representing the church session, the board of deacons, and the trustees, were appointed a committee to present the resolutions at the meeting of the presbytery soon to be held:
WASHINGTON, D. C., Aug 10, 1893.
Whereas our pastor, Rev. T. S. Wynkoop, having first consulted with his session, and then having given due public notice of his intention to seek a dissolution of the pastoral relation existing between him and this church; and
Whereas we are a meeting of the congregation of this church, duly called by order of the session to consider this matter: Therefore it is
Resolved, That we join with our pastor in his request to the presbytery that said pastoral relation be dissolved.
Resolved, That we place upon record our profound gratitude to God for His continued and manifest blessings upon the faithful and efficient ministry of Rev. T. S. Wynkoop in the Western Presbyterian Church for the past fifteen years and to the unbroken harmony and the growth and prosperity of this church during all his leadership.
Resolved, That we express our deep regret that he should be called from us, and that we only yield to what seems to us the direct ordering of God in the call of the North India Auxiliary of the British and Foreign Bible Society for a vastly wider field of usefulness and higher responsibility, for which he is so eminently and rarely qualified.
Resolved, That this paper be laid before the presbytery as expressing our feelings and reasons for our action in joining with our pastor in seeking a dissolution of the pastoral relation. And may our Heavenly Father accept and wondrously bless the sacrifice of love which our pastor and his people lay upon the altar of His service.
