LOCAL AFFAIRS.

Point to rightMajor John E. Wynkoop.--A letter from Washington says:
"Major John E. Wynkoop, late Major of the Sixth Pennsylvania Regiment, which served in three months' service with honor, has received an appointment of Major in Young's Kentucky Regiment Light Cavalry, now quartered here. Major Wynkoop is eminently qualified for the position, having been an officer in Volunteer Cavalry nearly all his life. He is a brother of the late Col. F. M. Wynkoop, who was admired by every one for his service in the war with Mexico, and well calculated to succeed him in the good opinions of our citizens. His appointment is received here with great satisfaction."
Mr. J. Claude White, also of the County, who served with honor in the three months' service, is a Captain in the same Regiment. Both are fine officers, and will make their mark.
