NEW FORCES IN LOCAL RUM WAR

Federal Reinforcements to
Aid Police Department
___________

Complete Shoreline Control
Planned in Campaign

Relentless Fight to be Waged
on Underworld Hordes
___________

Federal reinforcements of four additional squads of picked men from the local prohibition enforcement district will be thrown into the field immediately to aid the Los Angeles Police Department in its announced war to rid the city and near-by territory of rum-runners, hi-jackers and gunmen, it was announced last night by John H. Wynkoop, chief field agent for the prohibition forces in Southern California under Col. E. R. Frith.
The immediate objective of the Federal forces will be complete control of the shoreline and an unrestricted drive against the landing of cargoes from any of the numerous liquor hosts on the west coast. To the police emergency squad, created a few days ago by Chief of Police Davis as a result of the slaying of two members of Los Angeles' rum band, will be left the task of driving out the undesired characters from the city.
Relentless prosecution of known underworld characters will be the primary objective of the police emergency squad under Capt. Finlinson and O'Brien, according to Chief of Detectives Cline, who quoted his orders from Chief of Police Davis, as:
"Get them any way but get them out of the city."

PICKET RUM SHIPS

"Not only are we watching the shorelines but we have two of the largest rum-carriers picketed off Ensenada right now, Mr. Wynkoop declared last night, "and we are ready to picket a third off the coast of Santa Barbara as soon as the present rough water quiets enough to making landing of liquor possible."
After revealing the closer welding of Federal and municipal forces in the new campaign against lawlessness in the city, Mr. Wynkoop substantiated reports current Saturday that Tony Cornero, asserted rum czar, is planning flight.
"Investigation has revealed that Cornero has sold his ship, the Hakadathin, to his partner, Eddie Edwards," Mr. Wynkoop stated, "and we have found that he has moved his fleet of trucks and automobiles, strengthening our belief that he has disposed of them."
Mr. Wynkoop then declared it had been ascertained that Cornero has obtained a passport for Cuba.

SEIZURE INVESTIGATED

"Things have gone badly for Tony recently," Mr. Wynkoop declared and then explained that Federal authorities are reasonably certain that the liquor cargo captured aboard the Annex Oil Company's yacht, the Donosarri, at Long Beach on July 25, last, was the property of Cornero.
"We are investigating the case and are practically certain of filing charges of conspiracy to evade the tariff laws against Cornero," Mr. Wynkoop declared.
As the drive against rum-running characters continued to take shape yesterday, the search for Ernest Schultz and Theodore Eggers, suspected of being the men responsible for the death of Harry (Cuter) Moran, who was slain in the St. Regis Hotel gun battle that also took the life of Harry Schwarts, alias Harry Munson, spread across the nation.
