Fisherman Made Unusual Catch

A party of five fishermen, who visited a stream on Whiteface Mountain recently, had an unusual experience which makes a very good fish story. The quintet, John Schuman, jr., and Arthur Wallace of West Sand Lake, Henry Brandt Wynkoop of Delmar, William Eck of Albany and Elmer Craver of North Greenbush, drove up Whiteface Mountain as far as possible. After following the winding stream for about two miles they started fishing and it was a race to see whether the experienced fishermen, Messrs. Schuman, Wynkoop and Eck or the tenderfeet, Messrs. Craver and Wallace, could land the most. Becoming nervous about the location of his baited hook, Mr. Schuman, in snaking it in, found that it actually caught the eye of a three pound pickerel. It does not seem possible that a fish would be so foolish as to wink at a fishhook but Mr. Schuman's four companions attest that this is what actually happened. At the end of the day it was found that although the catch of the experienced fishermen, proportionately, had a little more weight, the tenderfeet caught more fish.
