Maj. Wynkoop arrived in town last night, by private conveyance. The Major looks as hardy and warlike as a long campaign on the frontier could well make him.

Notes and Acknowledgement:

I would like to thank my good friend Byron Strom, [email protected], for sending me this note regarding Ned Wynkoop way back on the 21st of May, 1998. Byron, sorry about the long delay here. I've been meaning to get around to posting this small note but one thing and another kept getting in the way. Thanks again for all your help.

Byron gave me some background on Central City:

"Central City, Colorado was the site of some of the richest early gold finds in 1858. It is located perhaps 20 miles NW of Denver in the first range of mountains. Silas [Soule] maintained a recruiting office there during the fall of 1863. I copied the notice about Wynkoop from a microfilm which I purchased from the Colorado Historical Society. In it I found many references to Silas and his recruiting activities."

    All my best,

    Chris
