Description: 147 p.: illus.
Notes: In July 1846, John D. Wilkins of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania joined the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant under the command of General Taylor, and was ordered to join the 4th Infantry at Matamoros where he reported to Major William Graham in October 1846. Army Chronicle, which Wilkins wrote about the Mexican war, contains pencil, pen and ink, and water color illustrations of army personnel, places, and a diagram of the army's route from Vera Cruz to Puebla, Mexico. Letters to his family describe the trip by land and sea from Pennsylvania to Mexico, military personnel, the country, the battles of Monterrey, Cerro Gordo, Churubusco, Chapultepec, the surrender of Verz Cruz, and the possible court-martial of William S. Harney.

Title: Mexican War diary, 1846-1847.
Description: 116 p.; 12 cm.
Notes: The diary written by H. J. Moore, a volunteer from Greenville, South Carolina, describes his journey to Lobos Island, camp life, trip from Lobos Island aboard the ship Alhambra to the mainland, the days preceding the siege of Vera Cruz, and Gen. Worth's skirmish with the enemy.
    The diary was found on the Churubusco Battlefield by Thomas J. Davis on September 21, 1847.
