BALDWIN was formed from Chemung, April 7th, 1856. It is situated south-east of the center of the County, a narrow strip extending to the east border between the towns of Chemung and VanEtten. The surface is hilly upland, broken by the deep valleys of Baldwin and Wynkoop's Creeks. The soil is a shaly and clayey loam upon the hills, and in the valleys a gravelly loam.
