    According to the 1870 Federal Census for New York City, Frank Wynkoop, aged 39, a black male was living in the 16th Ward, 15th Election District of New York City, New York in June of 1870. He was working as a chimney cleaner(?). Frank was born in New Jersey and could read and write. Neither his father or mother was of foreign birth. Frank was a male citizen of the U.S. of 21 years of age and upwards.
    Living with him at the time was his wife, Mary, aged 28 a black female born in New Jersey and their three children, Emma, aged 8, Thomas, aged 2, and Mary C., aged 3 months. Emma had attended school within the year. All of the children were born in New Jersey.
