HUBERT S. WYNKOOP
At His Residence, 222-41 Ninety-third Ave.

December 13th, 1924

    Mr. Wynkoop was born at Yonkers, N. Y., on September 20th, 1866, residing there until 1875, when with his parents he moved to Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a student at the Brooklyn Adelphi Academy, and upon his graduation entered the class of 1888 at Stevens Institute of Technology. For a brief period after his graduating from Stevens he was attached to the staff of the Northern Pacific R. R., after which he became associated with the firm of Leonard & Izard, General Agents for the United Edison Manufacturing Co. for the Central States, at their Minneapolis office, where he remained until 1889, when he was promoted to the position of estimator at the main office of the same firm in Chicago. In 1890-91 he became the assistant district engineer for the Edison General Electric Co. at San Francisco, Cal., and in 1892 occupied the same post with the Edison General Electric Co. at Atlanta, Ga. In 1893 Mr. Wynkoop was the railway expert for the General Electric Co. with headquarters at Rome, Ga., and from 1894 to the end of 1897 he was the municipal inspector of gas and electricity for the city of Brooklyn, N. Y. From 1898 to 1908 he was chief inspector and electrical engineer in charge of the Municipal Bureau of Electrical Inspections for the same city, from which post he was promoted to that of electrical engineer in charge, Division of Electrical Inspection, Bureau of Gas and Electricity, of the City of New York, with jurisdiction over the Boroughs of Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Richmond, a position he occupied at the time of his decease.

    Mr. Wynkoop was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a Fellow of the American Institute of Electical Engineers, and a member of the Municipal Engineers, City of New York. During his life he had been very active in matters relating to the formulation and interpretation of the National Electrical Code, and was considered an authority on this subject.

    He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Matilda Z. Wynkoop, his daughters, Mrs. Marjorie W. Hurlburt, Mrs. Natalie W. Sykes, and Mrs. Ruth W. Rockefeller.
