Although John and his parents aren't listed in any of Richard Wynkoop's Genealogies there is additional information available on the Web about them, (including other possible family members.): According to the 1870 Federal Census for Columbia Township, Whitley County, Indiana, (Sheet No. 23 - Page No. 359A - Microfilm Roll No. M593-373): John Wyncoope, a white male aged 44 years and born in Ohio was living in Columbia Township, Whitley County, Indiana. The value of his real estate was $3,000 and his personal worth was $300. Living with him was his son, Cassen(?), a white male, aged 10 years. Cassen(?) was born in Indiana and was attending school. Cassius Wynkoop, a single white male, aged 50 years and born in Indiana was living in Columbia Township, Whitley County, Indiana. He was listed as Head of the Household and worked as an Engineer in a Threshing Mill, although he was currently unemployed and had been so for 20 weeks. Cassius had no children. He could read and write and speak English and owned the house he lived in. The birthplaces of his father and mother were unknown, (which usually implies that the census taker didn't find him at home). Also living with him at the time was his Aunt, Ann Wynkoop, a single white female, aged 78 years. Ann was born in Ohio. Her father was born in New Jersey and her mother in Pennsylvania. She had no listed occupation. Finally the index for the Eberhard Cemetery, Columbia Township, Whitley County, Indiana reveals the following family groups:
