Raymond Wynkoop.

My father, Raymond Wynkoop, was a man of many accomplishments, having passed the exam for two Ph.D.'s at Princeton University in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and having studied for the bar at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. He was a horticulturist, who specialized in the cultivation of geraniums and later orchids. He taught himself photography and silversmithing, and was an accomplished sailor. As an undergraduate he attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute, (WPI), in Worcester, Massachusetts on a German scholarship, a language he could speak fluently. Later in life he picked up smatterings of Italian and Dutch and was learning Japanese at the end of his career. After dropping out of High School he earned a living as a radio operator on oil tankers. Amateur Radio, (Ham radio), stayed a life-long interest of his and he was still broadcasting the day before he died.

He was also the father of four sons, Christopher, Peter, Geoffrey and Steven. Married twice, his first wife was Marie Elizabeth Murray of Nova Scotia. His second wife was Ruth Catherine Williams of Massachusetts.

I'll be including a couple of articles here that were published in a company newspaper in the 1960's, as well as his entries from various editions of Who's Who... As I get time, I will also be posting a couple of anecdotes and a memoir of my father's days as an undergraduate at WPI that an old college friend of his was kind enough to send me several years ago.

I hope you enjoy this visit with my Dad.

    Chris
