HENRY WYNKOOP.

HIS GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN HOLD REUNION AT THE OLD HOMESTEAD AND ORGANIZE "HENRY WYNKOOP MEMORIAL ASSOCIATION."

On the Fourth of July the descendants of Henry Wynkoop met at the old homestead, two and a half miles southwest of Newtown, on the Richboro road. He named it "Vredens Hoff," which, translated from the Dutch, means "Verdant Court." Here, where Henry Wynkoop had so often gathered his children and grandchildren together to celebrate the Nation's birthday, his posterity assembled to do honor to his memory.
The day was all that could be desired, the weather perfect and the place inspiring. The surroundings were indeed historic. In the background stood the famous old house, dating hack to pre-Revolutionary times, with its thick stone walls, its heavy doors hung on curious hinges and its flagged pavement in front. Not far away could be seen the old ash tree under which Wynkoop's slaves lie buried. Near by are the old outbuildings, the barn and spring-house, all reminders of days Colonial.
There are about four hundred living descendants, scattered all over the United States. The Wynkoops in the vicinity of Newtown, although they revere his memory as much as do any of his own descendants, were not included in Saturday's celebration, being the descendants not of Henry, but of his cousin, Gerardus Wynkoop.
After luncheon, which was served on the lawn in front of the house, by a caterer from Germantown, the "Henry Wynkoop Memorial Association," a permanent organization, was formed. The following officers were elected:
President, Reading Beatty; vice president, Alfred Halberstadt Wynkoop; treasurer, Mary Mays Beatty; secretary, John Sparhawk Wurts, 1109 Land Title Building, Philadelphia, Pa.
Board of Governors, elected to serve for one year: Mrs. Samuel Dawes Harvey, Miss Susan Assheton Beatty, Mrs. P. Mortimer Hirst, Mrs. Edward A. Stitt, Miss Lillie Arndt Williams, Mrs. Theodore Frelinghuysen Wurts, Miss Mary Helen Radford, Mrs. William Stevens Bean, Miss Mary Patterson Watson, Mrs. William Lewis Puffer, Mrs. Charles Walter and Miss Laura E. Lefferts.
