1 This "Poor Farm" was given to the Collegiate Church by Deacon Jeurian Fradell about 1651. It contained about 140 acres, together with three of the neighboring islands in the East River. It was still in possession of the church in 1686, as this item proves. It lay between Flushing Bay and Astoria, and is now covered by Steinway. The locality was known as the "Poor Bouwery" until after 1850. The name still persists in "Bowery Bay" nearby.

Notes:

If you've read the source information above, you'll have noticed that this information is not one continuous whole, but is abstracted from 5 separate pages of the more than 103 total pages in this published manuscript. I've attempted to list only those people who I know are, or felt were, related to the Van Langedycks by birth or marriage. This has not always been easy. The Van Langedycks, in 1686, seemed to have lived in close proximity to each other, on only three separate streets in fact. Using that as a starting point, I've also relied on the name-number and member-numbers as pointers to other close relatives as well. Thus you'll find what I assume are Grietje Wessels' relatives living just a few doors down from her in Hoog Straet. On Smit Straet you'll find Janetje Dye living next to her mother, Geertie Langendyck, and over on 's Smits Vallye you'll find the mysterious Herman Janszen, en syn huysv. Brechtie Elswaert living right next door to Jan Janszen van Langedyck and Pieter Janszen van Langedyck. I don't know for sure if Herman is a relative, but it seems more than likely given his physical closeness to Jan and Pieter.

Since I've only been able to uncover two Jan Janszen van Langedycks who were alive during this time period, (and none afterwards, incidently), the Jan Janszen van Langedyck who is living over on 's Smits Vallye is the patriarch of the van Langedyck family, living next door to his son Pieter, while the Jan Janszen van Langedyck who is living with Grietje Wessels on Hoog Straet is the son by that name. The 1686 date of the manuscript gives us approximate death dates for both of the Jan Janszen van Langedycks. The son was dead sometime before August 23, 1691, which is when his widow married for the third time at the Bergen Reformed Dutch Church in New Jersey:

1691 23 Aug; Enoch Michiels Vreeland (wid. of Dirckje Myers) liv. Minkachqwee; Grietje Wessels (wid. of Jan Janse Langedyk) liv. N.Y..
The father died, either in or sometime after 1686 when the Record book is dated.

There is still more research to be done.

    All my best,

    Chris
