Transcribed by Renee Smelley on July 25, 26 and August 18, 2001
Note: Because this cemetery is located about 4 miles from the Gregg County line vital records may be found in both Harrison and Gregg County. This cemetery was very difficult to read because there seemed to be no true rows. I went back and found one short row that I missed. It is very possible that there may be a few from this cemetery that were not recorded on this transcription. If you have additions or corrections for this cemetery transcription please contact me at [email protected]

LaGrone's Chapel Church & Historical Marker
|
|
Situated on land owned by a pioneer Jacob LaGrone
(1785 - 1868), who settled here in 1837 as a citizen of the Republic of
Texas. Chapel was built about 1866, of timber sawed by
Harleton's Mill (12 mi. N) and hand dressed at construction site.
T. B. McFarland supervised the work.
Neighbors donated their labor. Poperty was deeded Aug 17, 1870 to Methodist Denomination by David McKinney purchaser of 200 acres from LaGrone's estate. Recoded Texas Historic Landmark. 1973. |
