13TH REGIMENT
NORTH CAROLINA TROOPS
COMPANY B
MEN FROM YORK COUNTY

Many York District volunteers during the Civil War joined military units that were formed outside of their home district. The Ranalsburg Riflemen of Mecklenburg County NC contained a number of York District soldiers. Ranalsburg (also Randalsburg and other variant spellings) was a village, since vanished, that was located in lower Steele Creek communtiy, at, or near, where Highway 49 is crossed by Highway 160 not far above the South Carolina line.  The 13th Regiment was formed on 4/3/1861, nine days before the firing on Fort Sumter, & arrived in Raleigh, NC on 4/30/1861. About half of the officers were probably from the York District.
