The citizens of the north-eastern part of the District, and a portion of the citizens of Bethel, in accordance with a previous notice, met at Smith's Mills, on the 8th instant, with a view of making some arrangements for the protection of their homes and families in any emergency; and that, should the military companies be called into service, there may be a sufficient force in readiness, to quell insurrections or scourge the secret emissaries of our enemies.

On motion of J. D. P. Currence, Esq., William Latta was called tot he Chair, and Z. D. Smith was requested to act as Secretary. The Chairman, in a few appropriate remarks, explained the object of the meeting. After a few remarks by others, the aged men and those exempt from Military duty, proceeded to enroll their names as "Minute Men." Their names are as follows: Wm. Latta, Michael Bradley, Robert Patrick, Walter Gwinn, A. M. Wallace, J. D. P. Currence, A. A. McKenzie, E. D. Thompson, E. B. Dameron, Robert Campbell, J. A. Laney, J. M. Stewart, W. P. Barnett, A. J. Harper, J. T. Harper, R. T. Harper, J. G. Staunton, Jas. Warren, Geo. Duff, Jos. Duff, Hugh Brandon, D. J. Glenn, Jr., N. B. Craig, Henry Glenn, G. H. Johnston, R. M. Wilson, Jas. O. Moore, J. H. P. McKenzie, S. S. Smith, A. H. McKenzie, J. Anderson, J. F. Stewart, Wm. Martin, A. M. Thompson, Jas. Warren, Jr., Francis F. Boyd, Theodore Boyd, N. D. Glenn, John N. Barnet, D. J. Glenn, Sr., and Col. Thos. Davies.

On motion of J. D. P. Currence, the Chairman appointed a committee to nominate officers for the company, consisting of J. D. P. Currence, A. A. McKenzie, A. M. Wallace, E. D. Thompson and J. A. Laney.

The Committee, in a short time, reported the following nominations: For Captain, A. A. McKenzie; 1st Lieutenant, A. J. Harper; 2nd Lieutenant, W. S. Barnet; for Ensign, A. M. Wallace.

By a vote of the company, the above named were unanimously elected.

On motion of A. A. McKenzie, the Chairman appointed J. D. P. Currence, A. A. McKenzie, A. M. Wallace, E. D. Thompson and J. A. Laney, a Committee to draft a constitution and by-laws, for the regulation of the company, and to present them at the next meeting for consideration.

On motion of A. A. McKenzie, it was resolved that this company bear the same of the "Crowder's Creek Rangers."

On motion of J. A. Laney, it was resolved that the company meet hereafter at the old field near W. G. Finly's.

On motion of A. A. McKenzie, it was resolved the company meet on the 22d instant, at 11 o'clock, A. M., at the place above named, for the purpose of drill.

On motion of A. A. McKenzie, it was resolved, that we wear the badge of "Minute Man" on all public occasions.

On motion of A. A. McKenzie, a copy of the proceedings of this meeting was ordered to be sent to the Yorkville Enquirer, with a request that the same be published.
