personally appeared before me, a
Justice
of the peace
in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths,William
C. Overstreet
aged 58
years, a resident of Elgin
in the County of Scott
and State of Tennessee
whose post-office address
is Elgin
County of Scott and state of Tenn
and well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being
duly sworn,
declares as follows:
That
he is the claimant in the above
claim
and that he served with his command
from
the 9 day of Aug. 1863. until he was
mustered
out of the service and never left
his
command without orders from his
superior
officers. Affiant further states that
this
affidavit was written by L.B. Goad in
his
presence and from my own oral
statements
made to L. B. Goad on the 3rd day
of
July 1896 at Elgin County of Scott State
of
Tennessee and that he was not aided
or
promped (sic)
by any written or printed statement
prepared
or dictated by any other person
