Oak Lake: Erastus McMains' Land |
|
Oak Lake, on the southern boundary of Erastus McMains ' land patent is a beautiful 227 acre lake, with a maximum depth of 19 feet. Among the species of fish angled from the lake are Bluegill, Large Mouth Bass, and Northern Pike. 1 The lake has an unusual horseshoe-like shape, but was probably named after the oak trees that grew along its banks. |

This view is from the north, and is of a
clearing
off of Augustine Road. As you can see, Erastus' land provided a lush forest of pine and other species of lumber, as well as a wide range of other types of vegetation. Exactly where Erastus built dwellings on this land is not known at this time. |
