ESKEL LEE CASTLE SPARKS
1935-1950

Eskel Lee Castle Sparks, 15, died in the Paintsville Hospital at
10:30 a. m., August 19, 1950, as the result of a ruptured appendix
on the same day.

Born at Thealka on March 31, 1935 and a resident there all his
life, he was the foster son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Sparks.

Surviving besides his foster parents are three brothers and two
sisters: Estill B. (twin brother), Joe, Junior, Elizabeth Mae,
and Darlene Castle, all of Barnetts Creek.

Also surviving are four foster brothers and sisters: Tom, Ray,
Virginia, and Faye Sparks.

Funeral rites were held at the Thealka Church House at 10:00 a.
m., August 21, 1950 with the Revs. Cully Sparks and Florda Lyons
officiating.

Burial was made in the family cemetery at Thealka, under the
direction of the Preston Funeral Home.

 Eskel was a son of Cap L. Castle and Atha Esta Caudill.  Atha Esta Caudill Castle
passed away April 1, 1935 after giving birth to Eskel and his twin brother, Estill
on March 31, 1935. Cap L. Castle later married Bessie Picklesimer and had other
children.
The children from this first marriage were: Elizabeth M. Castle, Darlene Castle,
Virginia M. Castle, Symon Castle, William Castle, Eskel Lee Castle and his twin,
Estill B. Castle

ATHA ESTA (Caudill) CASTLE

MRS. C. CASTLE DIED MONDAY
 Mother of Seven Children Passes At Thealka. Mrs. Cap Castle,
age about 30 years, died at her home Monday at Thealka, following the
birth of twin boys. Mrs. Castle was one of the best women of Johnson
county and for years had been a member of the United Baptist Church,
and her untimely death is not only a shock to her husband and family,
but it is a loss which will be felt by the community. Mrs. Castle
was the mother of 7 children, the oldest of which is less than 7
years. Both Mr. And Mrs. Castle were prominent in their community.
Mr. Castle is a minister of the gospel in the United Baptist Church
and is also president of the local Union of the United Mine Workers
of America at Thealka. Much sympathy is felt for Mr. Castle in the
loss of his wife. The twin boys are living and are strong and husky.
Funeral services were held at the old Toms Creek Church at the Mingo
in charge of Rev. L. T. Preston, Rev. Geo. W., Gibbs, and Rev. Guy W.
Preston. Burial was made in the family cemetery. Paintsville Herald

Dated May 23, 1971

Mrs. Bessie Castle, 69, Rt. 1, Flatwoods, died Sunday in a Huntington
hospital following an extended illness.

Born Jan. 2, 1902, in Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late
Thomas and Lettie Kazee Picklesimer. She was a member of the United
Baptist Church of Flatwoods, and had been a resident of Flatwoods for
the past seven years, having moved there from Paintsville.

Surviving are her husband, Cap L. Castle; a son, Cap L. Castle, Jr.,
of Flatwoods; three step-sons, Joe Castle of Wurtland and William and
Estil Castle, both of Flatwoods; four daughters, Mrs. Darcus
VanHoose, Miss Mable Castle, and Mrs. Lottie Jean McKenzie, all of
Paintsville, and Mrs. Phyllis Jean Brown of Catlettsburg; three step-
daughters, Mrs. Mae Little, Mrs. Darlene Castle, and Mrs. Marie
Adams, all of Flatwoods; a brother, Roy Picklesimer of Nippa; a half-
brother, Alfred Church of Tutor Key; two half-sisters, Miss Onedia
Castle of Tutor Key and Miss Rushia Castle of Salyersville, 13
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Carman
Funeral Home in Flatwoods by elders Clifford Trimble and Charlie
Price. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

The body is at the funeral home where friends by call.
