In the Name of God Amen. I JOHN ELDER of Armstrong Township, County of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory Thanks be to Almighty God for it and calling to mind the uncertainty of this mortal life do make this my last will and testament in substance and form as follows, viz. First I give and bequeath to my well beloved WIFE the sum of one hundred and sixty dollars to be raised out of my personal Estate when sold at vendue. Together with a horse and saddle not exceeding the value of sixty dollars and a sufficient maintenance whilst she remains my Widow.  Likewise she is to retain as her property her bed and bedclothes, two cows, sheep and household furniture, the cows, sheep and furniture not to exceed the value of sixteen pounds.  My real estate I give and bequeath in manner following (viz) To my Daughters ISABELLA THOMPSON and ELIZABETH ELDER I give and bequeath the quantity of one hundred acres of land, each with the usual allowance to be laid off next the town of Newport in such a manner as to be equal in quality for each.  And to my Son ROBERT I give and bequeath the quantity of two hundred acres of land to be laid off next to my said Daughters land.  To my SON THOMAS I give and bequeath my Blackleggs old place with the reserve of the use of the lower Sugga Camp in the forks to his Mother during her natural life, of the new survey on Blackleggs, I bequeath forty acres unto said THOMAS to be laid off adjoining said old survey, the residue to be sold for the purpose of Patenting said old survey, and the overplus money if any to be equally divided amongst my other three Sons.  To my Son JAMES I give and bequeath my fulling-mill and saw mill and appurtenances together with one hundred and thirty nine acres of land ajacent thereto and the residue of my land and improvements on Conomagh river being about two hundred and thirty acres the which I give and bequeath to my Son JOSEPH subject to his Mothers said maintainance.  I will also that my said Son THOMAS do purchase for my said Daughter Elizabeth a horse and saddle of not less value than twenty-five pounds at a time thought suitable by hereafter named Executors-guardians, my legal debts to be paid out of said sales of personal property and the over plus (if any) to be equally divided amongst said Legatees but if any deficiency should occur in the measures for said expenditures it must be supplied proportianably by said Legatees, but first to be advanced, by said THOMAS and JOSEPH or procured on loan on the security of said bequeathed real estate untill said JAMES, ELIZABETH and ROBERT arrive at mature age, it is also my will and desire that my Son ROBERT be put under the Guardianship of JOSHUA ELDER or some fit person to see him through a course of liberal education on the security of his portion of land, if not to be conveniently obtained then he shall be put to trade of his own choice under the discretion of my after named Executors for which I constitute and appoint my said Wife MARY, ALEXANDER THOMPSON and my said Son THOMAS to be the sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament.  And do hereby revoke and make void all former Wills and Testaments by me made.  In Witness whereof I do hereunto set my hand and seal this 14th fourteenth day of October in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred.  JOHN ELDER
