Descendants of HUGH MOORE

Generation No. 1

1.  HUGH MOORE b. Unkown

Notes for HUGH MOORE:

The military notes below may well be those of our HUGH MOORE but it is not proven that they are of our Hugh.

If the information is about our Hugh then based on the age at the time of the pension application he would have been born abt. 1749.

Moore, Hugh 174? Virginia Lt., Ky. Pensioner (Historical reg. Of Virginians in the Rev., soldiers, sailors and marines, 1775-1783. Ed. By John H. Gwathmey, Richmond, VA. 1938 (13, 872p.) :561)

Rockbridge County, Tithtables of 1778

Hugh Moore

Children of HUGH MOORE are:

                   i.    JOHN2 MOORE, b. Abt. 1769.

ii.    WILLIAM MOORE, b. Abt. 1771.

2.              iii.    HUGH MOORE, b. May 15, 1775, Culpepper, VA.; d. Aft. the 1830 Census, Probably in Boone County, KY. Or possibly in MO.

Generation No. 2

2.  HUGH2 MOORE (HUGH1) was born May 15, 1775 in Culpepper, VA., and died Aft. April 25, 1821 probably in Boone County, KY.  He married ANNA ALLEN August 13, 1808, daughter of HUGH ALLEN and ANNA.  She was born Abt. 1782, and died Aft. 1850.

Notes for HUGH MOORE:

BOTETOURT CO., Marriage, 1807:

18 Aug. 1808 Botetourt Co. Ministers' Returns [VaStLib, microfilm 139]:

minister's return: Hugh Moore & Anna Allen.

13 Aug. 1807: bond, Hugh Moore & Anne Allen, daughter of Hugh Allen [Worrell's Early Marriages, Wills etc].

I found this copy of Hugh Moore’s marriage certificate at the Botetourt County Court House.  How it came to be a typed version I do not know.  It does show the original signatures of both Hugh Moore and Hugh Allen.  It appears that after Hugh More [sic] signed the certificate the quill had to be sharpened before Hugh Allen could sign.

"Hugh Moore, my great-grandfather, and Jimmie Moore came with their families from Rockbridge County, Virginia. My grandmother was only four years old. They settled at Georgetown* and after awhile Hugh Moore and his family came to the Big Bone, Boone County, Ky." --Written by Alpha Hance, copied by Jennie Lee Hance.

*Georgetown the county seat of Scott County lies north of Lexington along Highway 25 near the North Elkhorn Creek and the Kentucky Horse Park.

Hugh Moore, was an early settler at Big Boone Spring, in the southern part of Boone County, and did good service in the war of 1812.

Hugh Moore has been cited as a well renowned soldier in the War of 1812. I have not found any records that directly link our Hugh Moore. I did find records for a Hugh Moore in Warren Co, KY but on closer inspection this was not our Hugh Moore as in the 1818 he married a woman by the name of Polly Johnson.

At the Virginia State Library I found a list of men serving under Capt. John Murray and there on this list is a Hugh Moore having served 103 days. The document is almost illegible but it looks like it contains entries containing the date and amount paid.

Hugh appears on the Boone County Federal Census for the years 1820 and 1830.
