THE DESCENDANTS OF HUGH MOORE

GENERATION 1

1.  HUGH MOORE b. date and place unknown

Notes for HUGH MOORE:

The military notes below may well be those of my HUGH MOORE but I have not been able to prove that they are of my Hugh.
If the information is about my Hugh then he would have been born abt. 1749 based on the age at the time of the pension application.

GENERATION 2

2.  HUGH MOORE (HUGH1) was born May 15, 1775 in Culpepper, VA., and died Aft. April 25, 1821 probably in Boone County, KY.  He married ANNA ALLEN August 13, 1808, daughter of HUGH ALLEN and ANNA.  She was born Abt. 1782, and died Aft. 1850 in probably Boone Co, KY.

Notes for HUGH MOORE:

I found this copy of Hugh Moore’s marriage bond at the Botetourt County Court House.  It does show the original signatures of both Hugh Moore and Hugh Allen.  It appears that after Hugh More [sic] signed the bond the quill had to be sharpened (maybe as a groom to be, he was a little nervous and pressed down to hard?) before Hugh Allen could sign.

"Hugh Moore, my great-grandfather, and Jimmie Moore came with their families from Rockbridge County, Virginia. My grandmother was only four years old. They settled at Georgetown and after awhile Hugh Moore and his family came to the Big Bone, Boone County, Ky."

Hugh Moore, was an early settler at Big Boone Spring, in the southern part of Boone County, and did good service in the war of 1812.

Hugh Moore has been sited as a well renowned soldier in the War of 1812. I have not found any records that directly link our Hugh Moore. I did find records for a Hugh Moore in Warren Co, KY but on closer inspection this was not our Hugh Moore as 1818 he married a woman by the name of Polly Johnson.

At the Virginia State Library I found a list of men serving under Capt. John Murray and there on this list is a Hugh Moore having served 103 days. The document is almost illegible but it looks like it contains entries containing the date and amount paid.

Hugh appears on the Boone County Kentucky Federal Census for the years 1820 and 1830.
