He was awarded teh Bronze Star on January 21, 1945 for "meritorious service in connection with military operations against the enemy and has displayed an exceptionally high degree of efficiency and efforts in maintaining one airplane at a maximum of operational efficiency for 26th of March 1944 to 6th of November 1944. On many occassions he remained at his work all night in order that the aircraft for which he was responsible, might be ready for operational missions on the following morning. By his leadership, skill and devotion to duty, M-Sgt. Kesterson so effectively maintained this aircraft that it performed 57 consecutive missions without a mechanical failure and because of his high degree of technical skill, he established a record for aircraft maintenance that distinguishes him above other men of his grade and experience." Lt Col. Robin M. Kesterson
62 Fighter Squadron Commander
Taken from the 62nd Fighter Squadron webpage

The 62d Fighter Squadron is one of the most successful and historic units in the United States Air Force. Originally activated in 1941, the 62d has been part of many campaigns and holds many honors. We're proud of our heritage, and we work hard at continuing the squadron's proud traditions. The 62d Fighter Squadron is part of the 56th Fighter Wing and takes off from Luke AFB, Arizona. Our mission at Luke is to train the best F-16 fighter pilots in the world. Currently there are seven other F-16 squadrons sustaining the same mission, so Luke AFB has quite a high operational tempo. The 56 FW has more aircraft at Luke than the Air Force has assigned to the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE)
