[What follows is a note from the participant, Thomas Patrick Bonner.]
My Grandfather, Patrick Bonner, was the oldest of 13 children, all born on a farm (Cloghercor) about 1 mile outside of Doochary, Donegal, on the banks of the Gweebara River. At the age of about 15, he left the farm and went to Scotland where he worked in the ship building industry on the river Clyde near Glasgow. From there he was recruited to work in the Carnegie steel mills of Pittsburgh, Pa. There he married my grandmother, Katherine Sweeny, whom he had known in Ireland. The farm where he was born and raised, Cloghercor, was extremely modest � 2 rooms with an earthen floor and thatched roof. It had been in the Bonner family for over 300 years, so I was told by my grandfather�s brother, Joseph, who was the youngest of the 13 children and the child who inherited the farm. My grandfather�s mother, Ann McGeehan, died when she was swept out to sea from the banks of the Gweebarra River (estuary) as an especially high tide rushed out to sea.
