I wonder if John R. Apperson had a daughter named Nancy W. Apperson. Here is my note: "Apperson, Nancy W. & Shepherd, William B. John R. Apperson consents for daughter on 04 SEP 1849 Cumberland County, VA (Source: Cumberland County, VA register of Marriage Licenses)" So if she was married in 1849, she would not show in 1850 census with John R. Apperson. I should check to see if the 1850 census shows Shepherd close to Apperson, and also the 1840 census to see if there is an extra daughter running around. [William Sheppard and wife Nancy on Page 311B, 1850 census, Cumberland County, Virginia - I will make it so.]

Russellville Ledger, Wed. Jan. 6, 1892: Mr. Sam Apperson got peppered promiscuously last wednesday with a charge of bird shot. Messrs. Sam Withers and Sam White were shooting birds in a woods lot on E. W. Sweatt's farm, when Mr. Apperson, who happened to pass that way, infortunately received a charge of small shot about the head and face that was aimed at a covey of birds on the wing. The wounds are slight, though somewhat painful.
