I Joseph Gentry of the County of Ohio
and State of Kentucky do hereby make
my last Will and Testament in manner
and form following, that is to say _
1st I desire that all my just debts be paid
if I should leave any unsettled, together
with all my funeral expenses _
2ndly After the payment of my debts and
funeral expenses I wish all my property
both real and personal to be equally divided
between my heirs hereafter named _
3rdly I have already given to my grand son
James Gentry Junr $200_ and I have executed
my due bill of this date for five
Hundred Dollars which when paid
makes his amount seven Hundred Dollars _
4thly I have given my son Samuel Gentry
property to the amount of Five hundred
and 25 Dollars and my due bill for
One hundred and seventy five Dollars
which when paid will make his portion
received of my Estate seven hundred Dollars_
5thly I have given unto my daughter
Dicy Neighbors property amounting
to seven hundred Dollars, three
hundred and fifty Dollars of which
is for a negro girl named Syntha
for which girl she holds a deed of
gift of this date which is intended
to secure the property say said slave
and her increase to her during her natural
life and at her death to her children
forever
6D Sally Hoover my daughter now
Deceased has received out of my Estate
Three hundred dollars and I now will
and bequeath unto her heirs viz:

Joseph Hoover one hundred acres of
land more or less off the Fitzhugh
Survey Say the West Side of the road
leading from Hartford to Hardinsburg _
John Massie and George Three hundred
acres of land more or less of the same
survey including all the upper part of
said survey from Dempsy Whites line
the four hundred acres I value to them
at four hundred Dollars which makes
their portion amount to seven hundred dollars
7l I have given unto Elizabeth Petty property
amounting to seven hundred Dollars a
portion of which is a negro named
Ama for which I executed a deed of
gift to John Petty as trustee for my
said daughter Elizabeth Petty which is
intended to secure said slave & increase
to my daughter Elizabeth Petty during
her natural life and at her death to
her children forever _
8l I have given unto my son Benjamin
Gentry property amounting six hundred
and twenty five Dollars and my due
bill of this date for seventy five
dollars making his portion received _
Seven hundred dollars _
9l I have given unto my daughter Nancy
Petty property amounting to six hundred
and sixty dollars and twenty Cents and
due bill of this date for thirty nine
Dollars and eighty Cents making her
portion received $700__ 225$ of said
property is a negro girl named Adeline
which I have this day executed to her
husband Pinckney Petty (as trustee for
said Nancy Petty) a deed of gift which

is intended to secure said slave Adaline
and her increase to my said daughter Nancy
Petty during her natural life and at her
death to her children forever _
10th I have given unto my son James
Gentry property amounting to $668 50cts
and my due bill of this date for $31.50
Cts which makes his portion $700_
11th After said due bills are all paid
off I wish all the balance of my estate
which may be left after my decease
to be divided equally among the heirs
named above If my daughters Elizabeth
Petty, Nancy Petty and Dicy Neighbors
should hereafter receive in the division
of my Estate any land or negroes
It is my desire that they hold the same
during their natural lives and at their
death to go to their children forever_
12th I desire in payment of the due
bill I have executed to my grand son
James Gentry Jur: for him to receive
negro boy Andrew aged about four
years and of girl Syntha's children
Said boy to be received by him at his
valuation at the time he receives
him And lastly I do hereby Constitute
and appoint my sons Samuel and
Benjamin Gentry, Executors of this
my last Will and Testament hereby
revoking all other or former Wills
or Testaments by me heretofore made_
And having full Confidence in their
honesty and integrity I do not wish
any security of any Kind to be
required of them _

This last Will and Testament of
Joseph Gentry Decd was produced
in Court and duly proven by the
oaths of Thomas Massie and J. J.
Harrison Subscribing witnesses
thereto which being examined &
approved of by the Court is Ordered
to be recorded which has been_
done accordingly _
And thereupon Samuel and Benjamin
Gentry Came into Court and took
the oath required by law to qualify
them as Executors of said decedent
the will by provision therein
Contained dispensed with security
Given under my hand this
22nd day of September 1856
