5692. Photo RUSSELL CLAYTON SPENCER was born on 30 Aug 1911 in Bradford, McKean Co., PA. He died on 16 Nov 1959 in Olean, Cattaraugus Co., NY. He was buried on 19 Nov 1959 in Pleasant Valley, Olean, Cattaragus Co., NY. As a young man he worked in the local brickyard. From there he went to work at Olean Tile Co. as a machinist. Then went to Clark Bros in Olean as a machinist where he stayed until his death. Russell was a avid fisherman and hunter.

Spencer, 171 Allegany St., died this morning (Nov 16, 1959) at the Olean General Hospital (Uremic Poison) following an illness of several months duration. Mr. Spencer was born at Bradford, Pa., Aug 20, 1911, (birth certificate states otherwise) the son of Clara Ferguson and Claude Spencer. He came to Olean as a youth and has resided here since, he has been an employee of Clark Bros. Mr. Spencer was a member of the People's Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ellen E. Spencer, one daughter, Mrs. Donald Kohl, Olean; one son, George Spencer, U.S. Air Force stationed in the Azore Islands; two step-sons, Robert Watson, Olean and Richard F. Watson, Olean; three brothers, Charles Spencer, Leon Spencer and Harold Spencer, all of Olean. Friends may call at the Spink Funeral Home, Inc. 646 E. State St., Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday (Nov 19, 1959) at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Donald Weaver, pastor of People's Methodist Church, will officiate.

She was buried on 29 July 1961 in Pleasant Valley, Olean, Cattaragus Co., NY. The photo here was take ca. 1928

Georgia Anna, prior to her separation from her husband Russell, worked as a tile press operator for Olean Tile Co. After her separation and subsequent divorce, took her family to Buffalo, NY, where there she worked in a hydraulic manufacturing plant which supported the WWII war effort. She remained in the Buffalo area, where she met and married Arthur G. Holtz. Upon her divorce from him, she returned to Olean in 1953 and remained there until her death. Source: Olean Times Herald, Olean, NY July 27, 1961 Mrs. Georganna M. Holtz, E. State Rd., died today (July 27, 1961) at the Olean General Hospital following a long illness. Mrs. Holtz was born in Conneaut, Ohio, Sept 20, 1911 (this is incorrect as birth certificate states Oct 20, 1911), a daughter of George and Anna Williams Matteson. She had been a resident of Buffalo before moving back to Olean nine years ago. For the past seven years, Mrs Holtz had been employed in the warehouse department of F.C. Thomas, Inc. Surviving are a son: SSgt George R. Spencer, USAF, Hancock Field Syracuse; a daughter, Mrs Donald (Clarice) Kohl, E. State Road; two brothers, Lloyd Matteson of Snow Hill, MD, and Herman Matteson, Little Valley; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs Holtz was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Friends may call at the Halwig Funeral Home, Inc. from 2-5 p.m and 7-9:30 pm beginning tonight. Funeral services will be held Saturday (July 29, 1961) at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Paul Henderson, rector of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Franklinville, will officiate in the absence of the Rev. William G. Greenfield, rector of St. Stephen's. Photo GEORGE RUSSELL SPENCER was born on 1 Nov 1933 in Olean, Cattaraugus Co., NY. Enlisted in US Air Force 22 Jan 1952. Was stationed various places in US and overseas. Left AF in March 1966 and took a job for Westrex Communications in Quito, Ecuador. Stayed there for only 3 months, and was sent to Ft.Ord, Monterey, Ca., where he worked for 5 yrs for Litton Industries as a advisor to the US Army CDEC. After leaving Litton, he became a bartender for 5 years, then a Custodial Engineer, then a commercial salmon fisherman for 4 years, then a meat cutter for Luce Carmel Meats, Monterey. Went to work at the Ft Ord commissary as a meat cutter for about 1 1/2 years, then transferred to the Dept of Engineering and Housing as a electrician. Has been there ever since. On January 3, 1994, George was admitted to the Sons of the American Revolution National #141668, California State #6147. On March 31, 1994 George was admitted to the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. On 29 May 1994, George moved from Monterey, CA to Las Vegas, NV and went to work at Nellis AFB as a electrician. On 31 Dec 1996, George retired from Civil Service after 10 years of CS duty and 14 years of military duty. He plans to take his motorcycle and trailer and do some touring of the US, and possibly ending up in NY. Given the motorcycle etc, he could very well stay in CA till the weather changes again.

In October of 1998 George moved back to his hometown of Olean NY where no doubt he will stay till his death.

George's Obituary - his prediction of his final resting place was fulfilled.

Photo Clarice DeEtte SPENCER was born on 1 Feb 1935 in Olean, Cattaraugus Co., NY. She had 6 children with husband Donald. The children Deborah, Denise, Douglas, DeEtte, Deanna and Darla. They still live in the Olean, NY area. Both husband and wife are on disability. She due to a stroke in 1991. They have 13 grandchildren.

RUSSELL CLAYTON SPENCER and Ellen E. TYLER were married on 26 Sep 1947 in Rew, PA. Ellen E. TYLER was born on 13 Oct 1905 in Oswayo, PA. She died on 8 Jan 1997 in Olean, Cattaraugus Co., NY. She was buried on 11 Jan 1997 in Pleasant Valley, Cattaragus Co., Olean, NY. She was Russells 2nd wife. She had two children, Dexter and Steve from her marriage to Mr. Watson.
