Group number 1 was assigned to the first group in the project to have enough matches to establish a family group,  Group 2 to the second, Group 3 to the third, etc.
Missing group numbers were assigned to McKinney (at one time McKinney was included in the Kinney project; link to McKinney is at the top of this page).
