The following was taken from a photocopy of pages from the family Bible of Peter Hammond, Bartow County, Georgia. The last known owner of this Bible was Jim Hammond or his brother Hilton Hammond. Jim had no children so if the Bible still exists it is probably with one of Hilton’s children or grandchildren.
In this Bible Peter Hammond’s date of birth is shown as October 3rd 1817. In his grandfather’s Bible his date of birth is shown as October 3rd 1821. According to an interview of Peter in Memoirs of Georgia, Peter gave his birth year as 1821 which is probably correct. When he died, however, the family used 1817 for his tombstone.
