Family of
Andrew Flowers

Generation 1

Descendants of Andrew Flowers

ANDREW FLOWERS was born Abt. 1790 in Virginia, and died Bef. 1840 in Franklin Co.,AL. I believe he was a child of William Flowers and Martha Smith, but this is not proven. It is, however, likely that he was descended from this Flowers line. Andrew married MATILDA GRAHAM Abt. 1817, daughter of ANDREW GRAHAM and FRANCES DUREN. She was born 1802 in Kershaw Co., SC, and died May 1850 in Lewis Co.,TN.

In 1840, Maury Co.,TN; Matilda was living with her mother, Frances Duren Graham. Frances' husband, William had died. Matilda's son William was head of the household.
With them was 1 male age 5-10 (Francis M.?);
1 male 10-15 (James,13);
1 male 20-30 (William,22) ...........2 females 5-10 (Martha & Mary?);
2 females 15-20 (Malvina 16 and ?) 1 female 30-40 (Matilda);
1 female 80-90 (Frances Duren Graham).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Andrew Flowers was listed next to Andrew Graham in both the 1820 Dickson Co. TN Census and the 1830 Franklin Co. AL Census. These two families were very close and in fact, Andrew Flowers married Andrew Graham's daughter, Matilda.
William was administrator for "Francis Graham" (Matilda's mother) for Matilda, mother of this William [and daughter of Frances] was listed on the papers also.
Matilda Flowers was listed in a 1842 school census for Maury County.
MARY MARGARET "MAGGIE" HARRISON:
From Buck Harris, her grandson:
"Mother McNabb was a big woman, probably about 5' 8" tall and weighed over 200 pounds......She loved life; loved to visit and talk; loved to go places; and loved her Lord. She was an old-fashioned, shouting, testifying Nazarene and she dragged us kids to church every Sunday. My folks were Methodists but they thought they didn't have good enough clothes to wear to church, so Mother McNabb herded us to her church, patched over-halls and all.
I can still remember her rising from her pew to testify and sometimes the testamony would be sermon length amid Amens and Hallelujahs. With tears streaming down her face, no one ever doubted her sincerity. She would have made a good preacher.......
She married many times. Her collection of names was as follows: Mary Margaret Harrison- Henderson- Childers, Smith, McNabb and Bryant. She wore out four husbands, but Mr. Bryant survived her.
Here's an amuing little incident I remember from early childhood and I've been kidded about it ever since.
My mother had a chance to go to a picture show! Now, Mom rarely left the house to go anywhere so this was a real treat for her. Mother McNabb was going to ride herd on the kids.
I wanted to go to that picture show with Mom. Being a stubborn little cuss, I pitched a fit to go--rolled under the bed kicking and screaming. Mother McNabb leaned over, looked under the bed and said, 'Now, Buster, that's the old devil in you!'. they say I calmly rolled out from under the bed and went out to the yard to play. Mother McNabb grew up in a time of no electricity, no running water, no indoor plumbing, no air conditioning and no cars, except for an occasional Model T.
She was an outspoken Christian lady who led a full life of back-breaking work in rural White County (Arkansas)."
