He was retired from Cannon Mills.

SUDIE JANE BATES (daughter of Samuel Allen BATES and Amanda Jane SMITH)

Born April 9, 1904 in Starrsville, Newton Co, Georgia.

Died January 8, 1998 in Concord, Cabarrus Co, NC.

Buried at Carolina Memorial Park, Concord, NC

He died from colitis. Buried at Kannapolis Cemetery.

 

3-DOROTHY HAMPTON (b. Dec. 20, 1923 in Kannapolis, N.C.-d. Jan 10, 1998 Concord,

Cabarrus Co, NC) married CORNELIUS SCERCY.

            -GREGORY LYNN SCERCY

 

4-ELZIE OBIE HAMPTON (b. Dec.14,1926 in Kannapolis, NC-d. Dec.10, 1988 in GA).

Married CAROL GRAHAM. He is buried in the National Cemetery in Salisbury, Rowan County, NC.

No children.

 

5-FRED "Freddy" HAMPTON  married KAREN LYNN (HARRISON) MacDONALD.

Fred Fitzu Hampton enlisted into the US Army for WW1, at 21, on July 24, 1918 at Covington, GA. He was in the 5th Company, 157th Depot Brigade. Was discharged Dec 12, 1918 at Camp McClellan, Ala. He was commanded by Edward Elsworth.

 

His discharge papers show that when he enlisted he was 21, had blue eyes, brown hair, fair complexion, and stood 5' 6" tall, and had been a cotton spinner.
