Notes for SETH BURTON:
Nov 11, 2000 received this from Peggy (Peg & Sid)
Here is what I have on the Walton's.

In 1826 Phoebe wife of William H. Armistead, daughter of Thomas G. Walton whose estate was being administered by his son-in-law Edward Glover. Several deeds conveying lands on Puncheon Camp Creek, being part of a 1000 acres survey that Thomas G. Walton formerly lived on, identify the heirs as including; Edward M. Walton, George Walton, Edward Glover and his wife Polley, formerly Polley Walton, William H. Armistead and wife Phoeaby C. Walton, Seth Burton and wife Martha M. Walton, William Nichols and wife Nancy F. Walton (in Marion County, Elinoy (Illinois) in 1826 when they gave Edward M. Walton a power of attorney, Edward Bradley and wife Lockey Walton, and Narysia (Narcissa) Walton.

In 1835 William M. Armistead sold a slave Gabriel to Timothy Walton. At the same time James Walton of Sumner County and Timothy Walton of Smith County conveyed to "Betsy Ann, Martha Jane, Eliza Linton, George Thompson, and William Joseph Armistead heirs of Wm Armistead of the other part, all of Smith County, 110 acres on Snow Creek in Smith "including" the plantation where the said William M. Armstead now lives." Deeds of 1816 in Smith County (Book E, pp 318, 459) identify James, Isaac and Timothy Walton, Arthur S. Hogan and wife Rachel, Nathaniel M. Williams and wife Sarah Jane as heirs of Col. William Walton, deceased and Sarah Walton his widow.

Notes for GEORGE WASHINGTON COOPER:
Bertha (Cooper) (Smotherman) Bradford's Records Copied by Jessie (Cooper) Thomas.
The family of George Washington Cooper, Scotch Irish, came to Missouri from Kentucky in the early 1800's married Serenia Parks of Franklin County Missouri. They had 6 children; Jesse, Nancy Ann, Ellen, Melvina, Ebinezzar and Eli (Eal) Bailey the youngest.
This was all started by Nancy Melvina Cooper Birge (my great grandmother), Sharlee.
See each sibling for more notes as per Bertha (Cooper)(Smotherman) Bradford's Records copied by Jessie (Cooper) Thomas given to Sharlee Birge.
As family legend has it, George's mother (unknown to us at this time) was carrying George in her tummy when they arrived in MO.

Per 1840 Census Boone Twp page 229 Franklin Co., MO
Cooper, George and family 1 male 5-10, 1 male 15-20, 1 male 20-30 1 male 50-60, 2 female under 5 1 female 20-30. Living next to Jesse Parks.

Per 1850 Being 31st Dist Page 52 Franklin County Census; George D. Cooper was 30 years old and born in Missouri. That SERNA was 28 and born in Kentucky. Nancy A. 13yrs born MO., Mary M. 11yrs born in MO., Susan 9yrs born in MO., Jessee 7yrs born in MO. and Isam 4yrs born in MO., and Eli 2yrs born in MO.

Per Stan Eddington II, 1860 Franklin Co Census lists our George Cooper, as G. D. Cooper and his spouse as Judy. From this it seems Serena Parks Cooper died before 1860. It also indicates his middle name may not have been "Washington."

George Washington Cooper, Scotch-Irish descendent, came to Missouri in the early 1800's. George's youngest son, Eli Bailey Cooper, married Elizabeth Armistead. They had 8 children. Eli later married Nancy Brown.

Notes for GEORGE WASHINGTON ARMISTEAD:
Provided by June Manion;
June has provided me with all of the information on this family. All I had was the names of George and his wife Martha. I did have a birth date of 1842 for George which I received from the MO website.
Provided by June Manion; This article appeared in the Sullivan News on Thursday, June 10, 1920:
George W. Armistead, who lived on his farm at Oak Grove (3 miles west of Stanton) Franklin County, died at his home, Friday evening, May 28 at 7 o'clock, by his family, at the age of 77 years 7 months 10days. 1920.
He was born in the vicinity of his present home, October 18 1842 and spent his boyhood days with his parents until the call of his Country, when on the 21st day of September, 1861, at the age of 19, he answered the call by enlisting in Capt. John McFall's Company I, 26th Regiment Missouri Volunteers; served at the front and was honorably discharged by reason of disability, in camp before Corinth Mississippi on the 3rd day of April 1862 returning to his home.
On Jan 18 1864, he married Miss Martha Jane Brown. To this union eight children were born, of whom five survive, Mrs. Nancy J. Rudolph, Mrs. Phoebe Agnes Bell, Jesse J., William Robert, and Mrs. Julia A. Greenwood of St. Louis. His wife died March 20 1884.
He was again married on May 28 1888 to Miss Frances Elizabeth Byrd (at Union MO.) To this union were born twelve children, seven of whom survive, Mrs. J. S. Cooper of Villa Ridge, Leander B., Charles H., Orville W., Claude R., Ernest A., and Mrs. Nathan Schuler of St. Louis. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Agnes Nettell, who resides on the adjoining farm and who attended him during his last days with all the tender care and love of a sister. Four sons-in-laws, twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren remain to mourn his loss.
He had been a farmer all his life and resided on the present home site since 1884 and enjoyed a happy and prosperous life until the illness that caused his death overtook him. He was active in the welfare of his vicinity and contributed to all causes of advancement or charity. He attended the Christian Church when able to do so and was known to all as "Uncle George."
He was buried in the Hendricks Cemetery Sunday, May 30, (Decoration Day) the services being conducted by the Rev. A. L. Sullivan of Sullivan MO., with prayer at the home and religious services at the grave. At the conclusion, the grave was decorated with the flag in behalf of the Sullivan Post G,A,R, of which he was a charter member. The attendance at the grave recalled the many friends made during his life.
CARD OF THANKS We wish to extend our most sincere thanks to our relatives and friends for the kindness and sympathy shown us in our bereavement and for the beautiful floral offerings and the Rev. A. L. Sullivan for his services, in the loss of our dear Husband and Father. Mrs. Frances E. Armistead and Children.

Notes for IDA ANN BYRD:
Per June Manion; marriage records page G135 shows Ida M. Byrd and Ida M. Sorrello, but she put her name down as Ida Ann Byrd. My great grandmother information shows her name was Ida Byrd Sorrello.

June goes on to write; Marriage records in the Franklin County Court House in Missouri states her name was Ida M. Sorrello, I (June Manion) believe her maiden name was Byrd, 1st marriage Sorrello and 2nd marriage Armistead. I have heard the family say "Jessy married the Byrd girl." Also have heard her called Ida Mae.

All that June had on Phoebe is that she married John Rhodus or Rhodes and had four children listed, the same that I show. But, June didn't have the marriage record. My great grandmother had on Phoebe Armistead md Rhodus and Hill. Question mark put as to any children. When I found her marriage record to John Rhodus, and this could be the son of John, I figured they could have had two of these children Leonard and Jessie. Sharlee

Well I finally found them on the June 15 1900 census. Census taker, WOW, shown as Wihodus, I sent in a correction to Ancestry.com. Family 341;
