Riverside Cemetery
AKA Grand   AKA Walck

SEC-25 TWP-28 R-25

This cemetery is located on private land. The access road gate is kept locked.

Riverside was the cemetery used by the Grand community. The cemetery location was chosen by Charlie L. Sanford.

Mr. H. I. Walck was sitting with Mr. Sandford at his death bed. Mr. Sandford asked to be placed by the big spring on Lynn Walck's place. The request was honored and Mr. Sandford was buried on Sunday 12-25-1898.

This land was later sold to Carson N. Miller.

H. I. Walcks daughter recalled many graves were at the bottom of the hill and have been lost to time. It was once told that many graves were lost due to flooding and several caskets were lost to the river. The graves then were moved up the hill so they would not be disturbed again.

Mr. Harvey Culp, a local carriage maker and carpenter by trade made caskets for many of the persons who died in the early days. The caskets were of native black walnut and lined with a soft white material.
